There are a large number of golf courses in the UK and Ireland that are located on the coast, where some are within dynamic habitats such as sand dunes, which have an important ecosystem function and provide many ecosystem benefits. However these golf courses face various issues that are linked to pressures such as climate change and the dynamic nature of sand dunes.
Royal HaskoningDHV have developed a tool to aid golf course managers in decision-making, when deciding which management measures to implement in their golf course. This interactive tool provides both fixed engineering and nature-based solutions, with an emphasis on the ecosystem benefits (provided both to the golf course, the wider public and the ecosystem itself), to encourage the use and implementation of the nature-based solutions.
In this webinar, Mel Vural ran through the wider context of this project, did a live demonstration of the tool itself, and provided an insight into how this tool and approach could be useful for other coastal scenarios.
