The importance of CPD

The IES wishes its members to demonstrate the ability to provide a high-quality service, achieve greater job satisfaction and improve employability. The regular undertaking of CPD activities can enhance career prospects and contribute to your professional performance. The IES therefore believes that CPD should be regarded as an integral part of an environmental professional’s career. CPD is also essential in the achieving and maintenance of Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) and Chartered Scientist (CSci) status.

CPD requirements

The IES requires all professional members to complete 30 hours CPD a year and to record this. A full breakdown of the CPD requirements can be found on the Professional Development page.

CPD recording tools

The IES currently provides an online recording tool for CPD in the Members' Area.

CPD Events

The IES and sister organisations provide a number of CPD events throughout the year. A list of these can be found on the Events page.

What are professional ethics?

Professional ethics encompass the personal and corporate standards of behaviour expected of professionals.

Code of conduct

The IES publishes a Code of Conduct (pdf) to which all professional members must adhere. This Code defines the standard of conduct for the professions and ensures individual practitioners meet this standard. This aims to maintain the integrity of the profession and maintain public trust in environmental science.

Values

The IES is a charity and a values-driven organisation. We publish a set of values which states the aims of the organisation. It is expected that all members will help fulfil the charitable aims of the organisation and adopt similar values in their approach to their work.
