Mentees are IES members who have recently graduated and are seeking work in the environmental sciences or sustainability fields. Becoming a Mentee will give you the opportunity to:

• receive industry-specific advice on career planning and progression in their chosen field;
• gain recruitment advice, including input into CVs and interview processes;
• identify skills needs; and
• receive advice on where to search for potential job opportunities.

Mentors are Full Members or Fellows of the IES, with at least four years of experience working in environmental sciences. Becoming a Mentor will give you the opportunity to:

• develop your coaching and leadership skills;
• contribute to your Continuing Professional Development (CPD);
• gain insight into current issues in the employment market and potential recruitment opportunities; and
• share your experiences of the industry.

It's easy and straightforwad to sign up to become either a Mentor or Mentee. Simply visit our bespoke IES Mentoring Platform to create your account. Once your account has been approved, you can build your Profile and start finding mentoring matches based on your search criteria. Mentees can seek advice in the sectors across our membership and guidance for specific goals, such as achieving CEnv or CSci, or for more general development goals such as building confidence or seeking additional training.

The IES Mentoring Scheme is:

• Flexible: The needs of Mentees and the capacity of Mentors will differ and so the scheme is flexible to allow these to be best met. Mentors and Mentees can opt out at any stage simply by contacting the IES Project Office.
• Low on bureaucracy: The professional world is a busy place, and so the scheme involves minimal paperwork for all involved.
• Confidential: All information discussed within the partnership is confidential.
• Safe: Guidance on safety information is available to download.
• Developmental: With benefits for both Mentor and Mentee.
• Supportive: Numerous resources published on the website to support your partnership

These employability workshops are organised by the IES and hosted by member institutions across the UK. They are designed to assist member institutions in delivering environmental science-focused career support and advice in one condensed and informative day.​

Our workshops tackle key employability challenges such as how to write a CV, professional conduct, networking advice and understanding job descriptions, all from an environmental science perspective. Students will engage with a variety of immersive activities giving students the chance to develop and practice key employability skills. Over the course of the day, students will hear directly from professionals currently working in the sector giving students a crucial insight into how to succeed in an environmental science career and the many places an environmental science degree could take them.​
