At this year's Burntwood Lecture, the IES launched its new report 'Transforming the planet: Our vision for the future of environmental science'. This is the culmination of the IES's year-long Future of ES23 horizon scanning and foresight project which brought together the environmental science community to outline a pathway for achieving a positive future for people and the planet. The work was informed by extensive engagement with environmental professionals on the key areas shaping the sector. Throughout the course of the project over 20 events were held, featuring over 80 contributors and attracting more than 850 attendees.
The report outlines the findings from the project, along with the IES vision for the future of environmental science.
The vision is a future where environmental scientists are knowledgeable, skilled, diverse, and trusted. Their role is to help people to solve environmental challenges and co-create a sustainable society where people and nature thrive.
Events held throughout the Future of ES23 project can be found on the IES YouTube channel in a dedicated playlist.
