We are delighted to announce that we recently registered our 1,000th Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) through the Society for the Environment (SocEnv).

The IES was one of the founding members of the SocEnv, which was awarded its Royal Charter in May 2004. In March of the following year the IES registered its first batch of CEnvs through a 'Grandparenting' process that allowed suitably qualified members to be registered under a reduced application system. After this initial burst of registrations, growth in the number of CEnvs was modest. A survey in 2009 of our members suggested that many of them wanted to gain Chartership but found the competencies to be confusing and the lack of deadlines around submission meant their application was pushed down their list of priorities. This led the IES to develop its innovative CEnv in a Day workshop. Since then the IES has consistently been one of the highest registrants of CEnv within the SocEnv family. Our unique Support-Speed-Rigour approach makes the IES one of the best places to achieve CEnv.
