The IES is establishing an Audit & Risk Committee as a sub-committee of our board (the Council) and we are looking for members to volunteer. Financial expertise would be an advantage, but is not essential.

Recent expansion has led the Council to determine that the organisation has grown to a size where we require an Audit & Risk Committee. The purpose of the committee is to:

• conduct initial reviews of the budget and any other financial plans and assist the staff team in developing these further; and
• review and advise the Council on the adequacy and effectiveness of the IES's arrangements for risk management, financial controls, financial policies and investment strategy

Appointed by Council, the Committee will consist of the Honorary Treasurer, one other trustee and no fewer than two other members that can be drawn from trustees or from independent members.

Meetings will be held at least twice per annum to review the accounts before submission and the draft budget, although we anticipate meetings will be more frequent in the early stages of the Committee as we establish investment policies to manage the funds inherited from the Foundation for Water Research.

We encourage members with experience in accountancy, risk management, management accounts and budgeting, or ESG and ethical investing to apply.

• A supporting letter outlining the skills, experience and knowledge you will bring to the Audit & Risk Committee (this should state whether you have any unspent criminal convictions and be no more than a page long); and
• Details of at least two referees that we may contact (we will not contact your referees without your prior consent).

The final decision on appointments is made by the IES Council.
