IES members make significant contributions to all aspects of environmental management and decision-making across the spectrum of environmental science disciplines. We want to acknowledge the outstanding work of all our members, which has been maintained despite the difficult circumstances for many over the past two years.
We also want to take this opportunity to share and celebrate some significant achievements by our members and staff that have been announced in recent weeks.
SocEnv Awards 2022
The Society for the Environment (SocEnv) has announced the list of inspirational finalists for this year’s SocEnv Awards.
We are very pleased and proud to see one of our members, Professor Russell Thomas, Technical Director for WSP UK, nominated for the 2022 Environmental Professional of the Year award. Russell has been a member of the Institution since 2005, gaining his Chartered Environmentalist registration in the same year.
The Environmental Professional of the Year award highlights the very best work of Chartered Environmentalist, Registered Environmental Practitioner and Registered Environmental Technician registrants.
The finalists were selected from an array of high-calibre nominations, received for environmental professionals working in energy, agriculture, environmental management, water supply, transport, resources and waste, chemical engineering, the built environment, and more. Nominees also ranged from freelance to Directors working for multinational consultancies.
The winners will be announced at a virtual celebration event on Wednesday 8 June. The full list of finalists can be viewed on the SocEnv website.
ENDS Power List 2022
Last week, ENDS released its inaugural ENDS Power List, naming the 100 UK environmental professionals who have made the greatest impact in the past two years – as nominated by their colleagues, clients and competitors.
Having received hundreds of nominations, the ENDS team had their work cut out narrowing it down to the top 100 individuals. After dividing up the long list by sub-sector, the names then went out to a handpicked panel of experts in the field, asking each of them to identify holes and any glaring omissions.
We were very proud to see our CEO, Adam Donnan, included in this year's list. Adam has worked for the organisation in various roles since 2006 and has led the team since 2013 – taking the Institution from strength to strength in this time.
Of the environmental professionals selected, ENDS said "The individuals who made the final list may have shaped or influenced national or local environmental policy. Or they may be unsung heroes whose work is delivering positive change without receiving the recognition they deserve".
