The 2021 SocEnv Awards will recognise outstanding achievements of registered environmental professionals during a challenging year.
The Society for the Environment (SocEnv) is welcoming nominations for the 2021 edition of the prestigious SocEnv Awards. Nominations for the Environmental Professional of the Year and Registrant Newcomer of the Year awards will be open until 12:00 noon BST on Wednesday 28th April.
SocEnv Chief Executive, Dr Emma Wilcox, outlined who the SocEnv Awards are for: “Possessing high standards of competence and expertise, registered environmental professionals are equipped to meet many of the environmental challenges we face. But some registrants have gone that extra mile to push themselves to progress further and achieve more. Such accomplishments are particularly commendable during this unprecedented, challenging period with global uncertainty for the environment, health and society as a whole."
“The annual SocEnv Awards are designed to recognise those individuals who have innovated, inspired and have gone beyond what’s expected in their recent work to protect, preserve, or enhance the environment.”
Nominees for both awards must be registered as a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP) or Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech). However, nominations can be submitted by anyone, including self-nominations.
Phil Underwood, Engagement Manager at SocEnv, said: “Self-nominations for either award are absolutely welcome and encouraged. You will know if you have gone above and beyond in recent months – why not tell the judges and be in with a chance of recognising your hard work as a finalist or even a winner?”
Recent past winners of the Environmental Professional of the Year include:
- Mandhy Senewiratne CEnv – Director Sustainability, Communication and Change Management at Fyrefly Global Sustainability Ltd
- David Symons CEnv – UK Director of Sustainability at WSP
- Jerome Baddley CEnv – Senior Advisor on Environmentally Sustainable Healthcare to the Aga Khan Development Network
- Graham Powell CEnv – Water Utility Business Development Manager at Fleetsolve Ltd
- Dr Phillippa Pearson CEnv – Head of Water Services Science at Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water
The winner of the inaugural Registrant Newcomer of the Year award in 2020 was:

The Registrant Newcomer of the Year award recognises those who have hit the ground running since recently achieving CEnv, REnvP or REnvTech registration. Nominees must have gained their registration since the start of 2020 to be eligible for the 2021 award.
