Could you be recognised in 2020 for your outstanding environmental work? Do you know a deserving colleague who has recently gone above and beyond to protect or enhance the environment?
Now is the time to submit your nominations for the Environmental Professional of the Year and Registrant Newcomer of the Year awards! Nominate before Noon on the 14th May 2020 for a chance to be among the entries presented to the judging panel for consideration.
This year, the Society for the Environment have included a second award for the first time – the Registrant Newcomer of the Year. This new award is designed to specifically highlight those who have hit the ground running since recently achieving Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech) registration. Nominees must have gained their registration since the 1st January 2019 to be eligible.
To be eligible to receive an award, you must be a CEnv or REnvTech, but anyone can submit a nomination, which extends to allowing self-nominations. In the words of, Phil Underwood, Engagement Manager at the Society; “Now is not the time to be shy!”
Reflecting on receiving the 2019 Environmental Professional of the Year award, Jerome Baddley CEnv provides some encouraging words for aspiring winners: “It was a real honour to receive this award last year. I have been really fortunate over the last 20 years to work with some great people on some great projects. The impacts of this work have always been the reward in itself. It was humbling to receive some personal recognition for my own contribution to what had always been a team effort. I would strongly encourage others to nominate leaders and practitioners for an accolade, both those who have made a proven impact and promising newcomers. Personal sustainability is essential on the journey to a sustainable future. It is too easy to keep our heads down, focused on delivering change and forget to look up and see how far we have come. Recognition from my peers has helped keep me energised and encouraged me to aim for deeper, broader and faster change.”
During a difficult start to the year when the attention of the global community is on pressing health concerns, the Society would like to continue to recognise the outstanding work of CEnv and REnvTech registrants, whilst also ensuring that measures are in place to provide support during this tricky time. The Society’s Chief Executive, Dr Emma Wilcox, stated; “Following careful consideration involving multiple stakeholders, we concluded that whilst we must be highly respectful to the exceptional global health situation, we must also continue to highlight and congratulate those doing amazing things for our environment. It is vital that CEnv and REnvTech registrants continue to address the environmental challenges we face, across sectors and borders, where possible. Recognition of these efforts is something I’d like to continue in these difficult times.”
As with previous years, the Society will again be using World Environment Day as a platform to recognise the winner and highly commended finalists. The awards presentation will therefore take place virtually on the 5th June 2020. More details to be announced shortly.
