Nicholas' career path has involved obtaining multiple degrees, Charterships through the IES, an increasing number of international projects, and working alongside a number of great professionals. His career started with an Environmental Science BSc at the University of Plymouth where he graduated in 2007. His first big break came at Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) in their Hydrogeology team. Whilst at PB he also completed a part-time MSc in Contaminant Hydrogeology at the University of Sheffield.
After seven years, he moved across to WorleyParsons where he led the UK Controlled Waters Risk Group and spent some time out in Cairo, Egypt on a flagship hydrocarbons project funded by the International Monetary Fund and undertaken in accordance with the Equator Principles. During this period, he also completed an Executive MBA at Bristol business school.
Today, Nicholas is the EMEA Remediation Manager at Honeywall International Inc, where he leads the development and implementation of site environmental remediation strategies across the EMEA and South America portfolio. Day to day, this includes managing financial aspects of projects, managing consultant teams, representing the company to key stakeholder groups (such as Agencies, PRP groups, Community), champion remediation management systems, safety performance oversight and supporting the wider business lines with due diligence, divestments, acquisitions, permit surrender and operational advice.
Moreover, Nicholas has been an active member of NICOLE (Network for Industrially Co-ordinated Sustainable Land Management in Europe), where he has been elected to the Steering Committee. NICOLE is a leading forum on industrially coordinated sustainable land management in Europe, promoting co-operation between industry, academia and service providers on the development and application of sustainable technologies.
Nicholas really enjoys his current role, but in the future, he would like to further explore two areas: environmental policy and habitat restoration. The first interests him because it provides an opportunity to address some of the wider environmental challenges facing our society. The second presents an opportunity for him to combine his work and his interest in orchards, woodlands and rewilding projects.
Nicholas joined the IES in 2014 and he has since then become a Chartered Environmentalist and Chartered Scientist.
