Jonas is a Senior Air Quality and Noise Consultant at ITPEnergised in Edinburgh. His main responsibility is to deliver assessments for a wide range of public and private sector clients. The role is diverse and covers various aspects of air quality and noise consultancy, including monitoring, modelling, and delivery of technical reports. He has worked on a variety of projects, from planning applications for small developments to EIAs for large schemes, across the energy, oil and gas, infrastructure and property sectors in the UK and abroad.
After completing his BEng in Energy and Environmental Engineering from Napier University in Edinburgh, Jonas joined Energised Environments Limited (now ITPEnergised) as a Project Assistant to support the ecology and wider environmental planning team. After 18 months as a Project Assistant, he was promoted to Consultant and, in September 2018, Jonas was promoted to Senior Consultant. In his new role, he will have more responsibility for project management, business development and training of junior staff.
Jonas was driven to become a member of the IES because the Institution provides numerous opportunities for personal development, including access to the IES journal, interesting webinars and conferences, and a clear pathway to Chartership. Membership of the IES also allows him to be a member of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM), which he believes to be an essential professional body for any air quality consultant.
Not only is Jonas an upstanding member of the IES and IAQM, but he also has plans to develop the 2 organisation’s presence in Scotland by organising more events and setting up a regional group. He hopes that the group of co-professionals will discuss and exchange experience and ideas, and help raise the public awareness of noise and air pollution issues that can impact on human health.
In his work, Jonas enjoys the variety of the projects and tasks – one day, he will be travelling to remote areas to monitor noise levels on a site with a very scenic view and the next day he could be modelling transport-related emissions for a large urban area. Jonas also appreciates the ever-changing nature of his work due to new regulations and guidance being introduced and new modelling tools being developed. Using technology, such as GIS or modelling software to build complex models and develop tools, is something which he finds particularly interesting. He finds significant reward in his job, knowing that, as an Environmental Consultant, he helps to deliver environmentally sustainable projects.
Having completed the Institute of Acoustics (IoA) Certificate of Competence in Environmental Noise Measurement in 2015, Jonas is continuing his professional journey and is in the process of completing the IoA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control, expecting to finish by December. Over the next few years, he plans to further develop as a technical expert in Air Quality and Noise and work toward Principal Consultant. Furthermore, Jonas plans to work towards Chartered Environmentalist status within the next 5-7 years.
