Council elections 2016: would you consider standing?

We are looking for IES Members who want to help support the Institution in its next stage of development.

This year there are up to nine vacancies arising on our governance committee, called the IES Council.

Whatever your background and expertise within the environmental science profession, membership of Council will help you to shape the future of your Institution.  This is your chance to give something back to the environmental science community and to build your network and professional profile.

Board elections take place each year at the Annual General Meeting on April 28th 2016. In order for biographies to be circulated with the AGM papers, we require nominations to be submitted by Monday 28th March.

In particular we are looking for high calibre individuals from the contaminated land, energy and impact assessment sectors. We are also looking to increase the diversity of our board.

The Role
Trustees of Council:

  • Serve for an initial period of 3 years;
  • Contribute to the business and strategic oversight of the Institution;
  • Are committed to the principle of collective responsibility;
  • Engage actively with other Council members and staff and
  • Act as ambassadors for IES.

Council members serve on a voluntary basis but can be reimbursed out of pocket expenses for attending meetings and for undertaking certain activities on behalf of the Institution. Candidates must be Full Members or Fellows of the IES. They should be able to commit to attend the majority of our four Council meetings a year, which usually take place at the IES Office in London. New trustees will be given a full induction by IES staff.
