Award: Perturbations of Natural Systems in the Anthropocence

IES members may be interested in The Franklin Institute's 2017 Bower Award and Prize for Achievement in Science. The recipient of this prestigious accolade will receive an award, a gold model and a cash prize of $250,000.

This year’s theme is ‘Perturbations of Natural Systems in the Anthropocene’ and is directed therefore towards individuals who have made significant contributions to understanding and quantifying perturbations of natural systems within the atmosphere, biosphere or hydrosphere in the age of the Anthropocene. Nominations should recognise fundamental contributions that emphasise large-scale modelling or synthesis of observational data in order to provide insights into these systems within the recent past and into the near future. Such insights may come from investigating time scales of minutes to millennia and study across multiple disciplines.  Nominations must clearly indicate the scientific impact of the nominee’s work, whether conceptual, technical, or integrative.

Founded in 1824 in honour of Benjamin Franklin, the Franklin Institute is now a leading figure in science and technology research and is committed to widening access to the industry through funded-programs, grants and awards. The Bower Award itself was established in 1990 and was named after chemical manufacturer and philanthropist, Henry Bower (1896-1988).

The official deadline for nominations is May 31st 2016, although an email of intent to nominate sent to awards@fi.edu by April 30th 2016 will be appreciated.
