It is with great sadness that the IES Council and staff note the sudden death of Nick Reeves OBE, Executive Director of Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
Reeves had lead the Institution since 1998, and colleagues have described him as a “tireless advocate for the environment, and an enthusiastic, committed and visionary leader.”
Among his many achievements, Reeves was awarded an OBE in the 2011 New Year’s Honours List, for services to the environment. He was instrumental in the founding of Society for the Environment and more recently was collaborating closely with the IES on ensuring that environmental policy is underpinned by sound science across a number of policy areas.
Carolyn Roberts, Vice President of IES and current Chair of SocEnv noted: "Nick Reeves was a personal friend as well as a professional colleague to many of us and his contribution to environmental work in the UK and beyond was enormous. A prolific letter writer, author and speaker, he will be very sorely missed.”
