Defra phasing out Part 2A funding

In a letter to all Local Authorities in England Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for natural environment and science Lord De Mauley has announced that funding for the Contaminated Land Capital Grants Scheme will be phased out and will cease from 2017.

Lord De Mauley states that the publication of the recent Defra guidance has led to a more risk-based approach to identifying and remediating contaminated land, which has led to the decision to withdraw funding for contaminated land identification and remediation. This reflects current circumstances including activities looking at departmental priorities and government spend.

The changes in the funding for the scheme are summarised below:

2013 - 2014 £2 million
2014 - 2017
Up to £500k annually for absolute emergency cases and to meet the requirements of on-going remediation projects where these are considered to be the highest priority.
2017 onwards Funding will cease
