The Data Tree is a free online course in research data management, launched by the Institute for Environmental Analytics and funded by NERC, as part of the National Productivity Investment Fund and the UK's industrial strategy.
The aim is to make research in environmental science fields more robust, reproducible and valuable to decision-makers outside academia. There are modules on data management, data visualisation, working with politicians and journalists. These are valuable skills that can help environmental scientists fulfill the IES's mission of creating a profession that is informed, trusted and a positive contributor to society. The course is interactive, with videos, quizzes and real-world examples of data in action.
The Data Tree is CPD accredited and ideally suited to PhD students, early career environmental science researchers, and anyone wishing to give the results of their research greater long-term value and usability. Course contributors include Reading University Meteorological department, Oxford University environmental research centre, the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), Daniel Zeichner MP, and many more expert authorities.
