We are very pleased to announce that the speaker at this year's Burntwood Lecture will be Baroness Kate Parminter. Her talk will focus on the challenges for the environment post Brexit.
Kate was made a life peer in July 2010 and has been a strong and consistent champion of social and environmental issues throughout her career. She is the Deputy Group Leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords and the party spokesperson on the environment.
Baroness Parminter was a member of the House of Lords EU Select Committee and Sub-Committee on agriculture, fisheries, environment and energy until May 2015 and a member of the House of Lords’ Select Committee on National Policy for the Built Environment in 2015. Before entering Parliament, she spent six years as Chief Executive of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).
Baroness Parminter is a leading voice on the challenges associated with continuing to improve our environment outside of the European Union, securing and opening an important debate in the House of Lords on the 20th October on the environmental and climate change policy implications of Brexit. Watch the debate here.
Baroness Parminter's Burntwood Lecture will consider the potential ramifications for the UK and it’s relationship with the environment post Brexit.
So far, the EU has led the world in environmental standards setting and law making. With the State of Nature 2016 report suggesting the UK is among the most nature-depleted countries in the world and with the need for climate action post Paris 2015, how optimistic should we be that this Government will respond to the challenges facing our environment as we leave the European Union?
The event will take place on the evening of Wednesday 7th December, and is free for IES members. For more information, and to book your place, see the event details.
If you provide products or services to the environmental sector, why not consider some of the branding and exhibiting opportunities that are available at Burntwood this year? For more information, please contact Emma Fell.
