With the requirements of the team and the expected developments in this industry, this position is open to either environmental science graduates with a strong background in data analysis, or data science graduates interested in developing a career in environmental sciences.

The position is based out of our Reading Office assisting in projects across the UK, although would currently be home-based.

Ideally, you’ll have 2-4 years’ post-graduate experience of air quality monitoring and assessment work, although we are also happy also recent graduates that can demonstrate a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities / Duties (Role Dependent):

Technical delivery

  • Undertaking desk-based air quality and odour assessments
  • Desk-based environmental baseline data collection and interpretation
  • Ambient and Indoor air quality, odour, and dust monitoring
    • Undertaking site-based monitoring including site assessment, preparation, and maintenance  
  • Advanced dispersion modelling of road traffic emissions, point/area/volume sources for a range of projects including residential, industrial and transport developments
  • Use of geographic information systems (GIS) to build models and present results
  • Data analysis and interpretation
    • Data processing and analysis of air quality, emissions and meteorological data supporting air quality assessments
    • Analysis of various data sets including road traffic and energy system information

Project delivery

  • Support / Manage the technical delivery of multiple projects
  • Assist in the coordination of multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Work as part of a small, integrated, progressive team
  • Attend and contribute to design team, client, pre- and post-contract meetings
  • Liaison with project team members and local authorities to agree an approach and obtain the inputs needed for assessments
  • Manage own workload and work to deadlines and budgets
  • Preparation of factual and interpretative reports
  • Preparation of figures

Business development support

  • Support / Manage tender and proposal preparation 
  • Support colleagues in the winning of new business through the preparation sales material, and market research
  • Contribute to repeat business with existing clients through provision of a high-quality professional service and building strong client relationships

Technical development support

  • Capture of lessons-learned
  • Identification and implementation of opportunities for continuous improvement

Skills

Essential:

  • Software
    • Good MS Office skills essential such as Word and PowerPoint
    • Intermediate/Advanced MS Excel skills

    • Ability to structure and prioritise work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a whole

    • Flexibility to work across the UK as necessary
    • A full driving licence is essential as the role will involve travel for site surveys often with equipment

Desirable, but not Essential (Dependent on Experience):

  • Software
    • Experience using programming languages, such as Python or R
    • Experience using data management tools, such as Power BI
  • Knowledge and experience in use of atmospheric dispersion models
  • Knowledge of a particular environmental specialism or market sector
  • Previous experience of working in a consultancy environment, including work placements or relevant voluntary experience

Qualifications / Memberships:

Essential:

  • Minimum upper second degree-level qualification in engineering, science, maths, or the environment

Desirable (In Role Development Provided):

  • Air quality themed degree-level main project/thesis
  • Post-graduate qualification, e.g., MSc or PhD in an environmental or air quality related discipline
  • Membership of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM)

Salary: Commensurate with experience, typically £20,000 - £35,000 per annum
