The Science Council sets the standards for practising scientists, through professional registration. We believe that every scientist has a responsibility to society, and themselves, to work with integrity, keep their skills and knowledge up to date and consider how their efforts affect the world around them.
The Science Council works with science professional bodies to represent the needs of the professional science community. We also license members to award one or more of the Science Council Registers to their own members: Registered Science Technician (RSciTech), Registered Scientist (RSci), Chartered Scientist (CSci) and Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach).
The role
The Science Council are seeking a CSci Consultant who will work with the Senior Registration Officer and provide their expertise to support Science Council staff with managing non-standard applications. You will create and facilitate assessor training and benchmarking exercises and assist with creating assessor and applicant guidance.
What you will be doing
- Assessor training – designing a training package for new and existing assessors and delivering training to new assessors and refresher training to existing assessors, around 3 sessions per year. Ensure consistency with assessments through the creation and delivery of benchmarking exercises.
- Assessor support – providing one to one support to assessors including probationary assessors where necessary and provide feedback to assessors on their assessments.
- Application guidance – assisting the Senior Registration Officer (SRO) with pre-application checks where necessary, such as around qualifications, equivalency and non-standard applications. Also providing expertise as a CSci for non-standard queries and working with the SRO to create competence report advice for applicants and assessors.
- Application Support – providing when required and conducting assessments via the Science Council Common Application Process (CAP) when there is a backlog/high demand on volunteer assessors.
This contract is for 12 days per year and the days of work will be agreed to meet service needs.
