The Science Council is the leading UK voice for the skills and professionalism of science, building trust and confidence in science and promoting appreciation and understanding of the wide range of roles undertaken by scientists in the UK. Bringing together over 40 learned societies and professional bodies across a range of disciplines, its mission is to advance science and the application of science for the good of society.
The Science Council works across a broad landscape of science settings, including academia, research, the public sector, education, industry, regulation and innovation. With a focus on enhancing and developing professionalism in the practice of science through professional registration, the Science Council has developed four professional registers. From this comprehensive perspective the Science Council also provides a voice on policy issues affecting the science community.
The Science Council now seeks a new Chief Executive. Leading a small but committed team, the Chief Executive will work closely with the President and Board to develop and enhance the Science Council’s profile and its relationships with member bodies, policy makers and other stakeholders. S/he will also work closely with the full range of science employers to grow the Science Council’s professional registers.
The next Chief Executive will bring their personal interest in and commitment to science to lead the Science Council through the next stage of its development. A skilled influencer, s/he will have an understanding of the policy landscape and the personal credibility to work effectively with a range of high-level stakeholders. Finally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of leadership at national level, including experience of working with boards.
