In this webinar, Joe Freemantle co-founder of the ambitious start-up Green Phoenix and Adam Donnan, CEO of the IES explored Joe's experience of being an entrepreneur in the environmental science sector. Joe co-founded Green Phoenix waste solutions in 2015 with Thomas Kouroughli and Samuel Geddes. The company aims to tackle the 1 million tonnes of absorbent hygiene waste that ends up in landfill each year in the UK. Their idea was born out of a Climate-KIC summer school based at Imperial College London and they are currently developing the new technology with London Southbank University under their Access2Innovation scheme.
Joe studied an MSc in Green Biotechnology and Innovation Management at Aberystwyth University between 2015-16 where he further developed the Green Phoenix concept which was picked up by the BBC, which recognised the issues of this waste stream in the UK.
During this webinar, Joe provides an insight into the challenges faced when setting up Green Phoenix and his experience of being an environmental science entrepreneur.
